John Goodman files another appeal to Florida Supreme Court

With one case already pending at the Florida Supreme Court, attorneys for Wellington millionaire and polo club founder John Goodman are filing another challenge at the Supreme Court as they fight his conviction on a DUI manslaughter charge.

Attorneys for Goodman have filed a notice that they will challenge a July ruling by the 4th District Court of Appeal that upheld the conviction in the high-profile case, according to documents posted Wednesday on the Supreme Court website.

Goodman was convicted of DUI manslaughter and and is serving a 16-year prison sentence for the 2010 crash that killed Scott Patrick Wilson in Wellington.

In the July ruling, the 4th District Court of Appeal rejected a series of arguments, including that Goodman’s rights had been violated because investigators did not get a warrant before drawing blood.

The newly filed notice, as is common, does not detail arguments Goodman’s attorneys will make at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, justices heard arguments Aug. 30 in another challenge filed by Goodman’s attorneys. In that case, which remains pending, Goodman argues the state does not have adequate rules for testing blood-alcohol levels in drunken-driving cases.

Goodman is appealing his second conviction for Wilson’s death. His first conviction was overturned because of juror misconduct. A Palm Beach County jury in 2015 agreed with another jury three years earlier that he was guilty of DUI manslaughter with failure to render aid.
