An employee of a Home Depot in Port St. Lucie was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly allowed merchandise to be taken from the store without payment then fraudulently returned the items, police said.
The woman told police she engaged in the theft because she was treated poorly by the store’s manager.
Kerry Joe Natalee Clarke, 30, faces charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
The alleged theft occurred at the Home Depot in the 2200 block of Southwest Gatlin Boulevard.
Port St. Lucie police were told by the store’s manager that Clarke rung up purchases of $3,000, then voided the transactions but allowed the person to leave with the items without paying. About $700 of the stolen merchandise was then returned. The thefts took place in August and October.
Clarke told police she hoped the manager would receive a negative review after the store’s next inventory showed the loss.
Clarke is being held in the St. Lucie County Jail.
