FAU police: Man caught videotaping women in bathroom

While a woman was using a bathroom Wednesday afternoon at Florida Atlantic University, she saw a man slip a cellphone into the stall.

Not long after, university police found Alexis Fermin Garcia, 20, sitting on a toilet in the women’s bathroom. He’d locked himself in the middle stall in the room, according to a police report, and an officer had to kick down the stall door.

It is unclear in which campus bathroom the incident occurred, and the report does not state whether Garcia is a student at the university.

Garcia told police he’d recorded at least seven different women using the bathroom on campus in the last month. The video clips were short, between five and 15 seconds, and showed women with their pants down, according to the police report. Garcia told police he’d taken the videos Nov. 9, Nov. 18 and Wednesday.

Garcia, a Greenacres resident, is charged with six counts of video voyeurism and one count of resisting arrest without violence, according to court records. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon and released about 24 hours later on his own recognizance under supervision, jail records show.

In 2014, an FAU employee was sentenced to a year behind bars for taking videos of men urinating in bathrooms on campus. Seth Thompson, then 40, told police he’d taken the videos to see if he could get away with it. He posted 13 of the videos to internet porn sites.

Cerabino: Help me, Donald. Trumping up The Beach Boys

At first, I thought it was strange that The Beach Boys, that quintessential California band, was the featured musical act at Wednesday night’s Florida Sunshine Ball, one of the kickoff parties leading up to Friday’s inauguration of Donald Trump. The Beach Boys, or what’s left of them, are certainly getting on in age. Mike Love and...
