Trader Joe’s will open a store in Wellington next year, the fourth grocery store planned for Palm Beach County.
The popular store with the loyal following will be on the southwest corner of U.S. 441 and Stribling Way, within the Village Green Center.
Other locations planned for Palm Beach County include a store on PGA Boulevard on Palm Beach Gardens, and stores in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, both on Federal Highway. All are set to open in 2014.
Alison Mochizuki, spokeswoman for the Monrovia, Calif.-based chain, said the company selected Wellington for its fourth county store because “it’s a wonderful community with lots of foodies and a great fit for Trader Joe’s.”
The quirky grocer is known for specialty items, including domestic and imported foods and beverages, plus low-cost but popular wines. Inside each store is a whimsical interior design, with employees wearing Hawaiian-theme shorts to go along with an atmosphere of being “traders on the culinary high seas.”
Each store is about 12,500 square feet.
The company also will open more locations throughout Florida: One in Tampa, on West Swann Avenue, and one in Orlando, on West Sand Lake Road at Sandpoint Boulevard. A lease also recently was signed for Winter Park. A store in Miami-Dade County’s Pinecrest is under construction. Trader Joe’s already has stores open in Gainesville, Naples and Sarasota. In addition to the Pinecrest store opening this October, a Tallahassee store is set to open in October as well.
Mochiizuki would not discuss whether a store will ever be located in West Palm Beach, which launched a marketing campaign to bring a Trader Joe’s to its city.
