A North Florida proposal aimed at providing more places to stay for PGA Tour events could cause problems for Palm Beach County’s seasonal rentals as lawmakers debate limiting to 30 the number of days per year that homesteaded properties can be rented.
Bill sponsor Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, was asked to back the legislation by St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis Hollingsworth, who said homeowners wanting to rent space to PGA golfers or media covering PGA events were concerned about losing their homestead exemption _ a tax break given to permanent Florida residents who own a home.
