With money tight in Washington, the Port of Palm Beach is proposing a scaled-back dredging project to make the port deeper and wider.
Manuel “Manny” Almira, the port’s executive director, said last week that the original project sought earlier this year would have cost an estimated $100 million, but the revised smaller version should be around $24 million. It will zero in on three key areas to make it easier and safer for ships to maneuver, but will not result in longer ships being able to access the port.
