The lowly radish is a hardy crop, and that’s one reason why farmers in Belle Glade produce roughly 15 million pounds of the root vegetable each year.
The rich mucklands in western Palm Beach County are home to the state’s three largest radish growers. The radish is undeterred by freezes that would hurt more fragile crops, such as green beans. It also takes an average of just 30 days to grow radishes, depending on temperatures and sunlight.
