The big vote is just a month away, as Office Depot and OfficeMax set special shareholders meetings July 10 for a merger vote.
The Boca Raton-based office supply superstore chain and industry rival OfficeMax, based in Naperville, Ill., in February went public with the merger plans. Both lag behind industry leader Staples, but all the office supply retailers have been hurt by low-price competition such as Walmart and Amazon. Office supply shoppers show little brand loyalty, so most of the competition is centered on price.
