Moving Up: Paul Licata, executive at Seacrest Services

Name: Paul Licata, director of Business Development for Seacrest Services

Distinction: Named to the Board of Directors for the Southeast Florida Apartment Association

City: West Palm Beach

Paul Licata was selling copy machines when he moved to Florida seven years ago. Today, he is director of business development for Seacrest Services (seacrestservices.com), a multi-million dollar property management company. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Florida Apartment Association (www.sefaa.com), a trade group that promotes professionalism in the apartment industry.

“I was just a regular sales guy, knocking on doors to get business,” Licata said. “Now I’m working for a company that represents 480 condo and homeowners associations and has 600 employees.”

All of his jobs, he said, have been in sales and dealing with people.

“I’m good at building relationships,” he said.

One of the ways his company likes to brand itself, he said, is as a business “that likes to give back to the community, to pay it forward.” They do a lot of work with Quantum House and Junior Achievement. Last summer, Seacrest Services was named the Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

“My job is exciting and a constant challenge,” Licata said. “There are always new ventures to get involved in.”

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Licata lived in Philadelphia for a while before moving to Florida.

“I’m trusting to a fault,” he said. “I believe in somebody until they give me a reason not to.”

Age: 41.

Education: Studied business at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Personal: Married to Beth, a chiropractor who has practiced in Boynton Beach for 19 years. The couple has a 3-year-old son, Lorenzo, and live in West Boynton Beach.

Hobbies: Golfing, traveling and spending time with family.

Career highlight: “My progression through my career starting at the bottom and getting to where I am today!”

Favorite quote: “The greatest accomplishment is not in never failing, but rising again after you fall. – Vince Lombardi
