The liquidation of Universal Health Care Inc. April 1 affects more than 5,000 people in Palm Beach County, according to state officials who said they in the process of informing affected consumers about options they have.
Universal, based in St. Petersburg, is a health maintenance organization with approximately 100,000 members affected, including about 60,000 Medicaid members and 40,000 Medicare members, the state’s Department of Financial Services said. A Leon County judge on March 21 ordered the company into liquidation as of April 1.
