Lettuce King turns 100, still working to develop better varieties

In the last 62 years Palm Beach County’s lettuce-growing industry has progressed from almost nothing to an $80 million a year crop.

Victor “Vic” Guzman, a lettuce breeder who turned 100 this week, is aptly known as the Lettuce King. Guzman has been there for the industry since 1952, conducting crop research, and he’s still perfecting lettuce in the fields today.
