Federal regulators this week sued eight former officers of failed Riverside National Bank, saying cozy loans to family and friends led to $16 million in losses.
In one example cited by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. in its civil suit, the daughter of former Riverside National Bank Chief Executive Vernon Smith defaulted on a $2.5 million loan, leading the bank to write off $2.3 million.
