Why are President Trump’s Tweets going on display in West Palm Beach?

What would it look like if Donald’s Trump’s tweets came with pictures?

Cartoonist Shannon Wheeler took on that challenge in his book, “My President Says: The Illustrated Tweets of Donald J. Trump, ” whose actual title is prefaced by a word we can’t use online that can be roughly translated as “stuff.”

Wheeler is bringing some of his book’s illustrations to EMKO, the West Palm Beach restaurant and gallery, in an exhibit that opens Wednesday.

Wheeler curated Trump’s tweets into a series of cartoons that offer a sly look at the president at his most-tweetable, as of last August when his book was published.

In one, the president is looking out at falling snow accompanied by a 2013 tweet that reads, “It’s freezing outside, where the hell is “global warming??” In one referring to the judge who blocked his travel ban in February, the president tweeted, “See you in court. The security of our nation is at stake!,” which Wheeler illustrated as Trump standing before a judge, who replies “We are in court.”

“I’m not turning him into a caricature,” Wheeler told the Washington Post. “A lot of people are doing that already. I’m trying to understand him and the image he has of himself.”

The free exhibit runs through February 10 in EMKO’s third floor gallery at 2119 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach.
