3 TO SEE: Chamber music, ‘A Christmas Story,’ photo exhibit

Schedule your season — with our help

It’s almost the weekend – time for the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County to share with you the best of what our community has to offer. Each week, you get three ideas – one that’s free, one that’s affordable and one that’s a splurge. Your “3 to See” cultural curator is Rena Blades, president and CEO of the Cultural Council.

Around the world in dozens of photos

What’s nearly guaranteed to be a part of the top five pastimes present in every “interest” or “hobby” section of social media and dating profiles? None other than travel and photography. There’s plenty of craft and knowledge dedicated to each, but it’s when they combine that things get interesting. That’s the idea behind Palm Beach Photographic Centre’s newest exhibition “Local Eyes, Global Views,” which gives resident photographers Barron Collier, Alexander W. Dreyfoos and Leslie Slatkin a captive audience for their images of faraway lands.

“Local Eyes, Global Views”: On display from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Jan. 5. Free admission. Palm Beach Photographic Centre, 415 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Info: 561-253-2600 or www.workshop.org

DEAL

‘A Christmas Story’

The holidays arrive earlier and earlier every year, but who can say no to “A Christmas Story”? Leg lamps, “fragile,” Red Ryder BB guns — it’s the complete package of nostalgia and kitsch wrapped up with a 1980s bow. The comedy goes from the small screen to a stage play at Lake Worth Playhouse this weekend and next, so make it a family affair and introduce the kids (or grandkids) to a classic. Just warn them not to “shoot their eye out!”

“A Christmas Story”: Opens 8 p.m. Friday and runs through Dec. 3. Tickets start at $29. Lake Worth Playhouse, 713 Lake Ave., Lake Worth. Info: 561-586-6410 or www.lakeworthplayhouse.org
