Permanently closed: We said goodbye to these Palm Beach County restaurants in 2017

Here are some highlights from north to south. (Check the bottom of the story to see the full list of restaurants that have closed this year.)

La Bonne Bouche

After 18 years in business, La Bonne Bouche Bistro is now Dayane’s Bistro. The downtown Lake Worth mainstay, a spot popular for morning croissants and seasonal French dinners, was sold in November.

Jason’s Deli

The deli, with an emphasis on healthy fare, closed its doors in November. No word as to why the restaurant closed. The eatery opened around 2008 in a shopping plaza on Congress in Boynton Beach.

Tabica Grill

Tabica Grill, a north county institution for two decades, closed its doors in late September. The restaurant, popular for its beer and wine dinners, had relocated to Jupiter Farms last spring from its 20-year location some five miles east on Indiantown Road. The move proved difficult. The recent hurricane delivered the final blow, according to the announcement posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page

City Tap House

City Tap House, the craft beer-centric restaurant at CityPlace has closed, according to a customer service representative at CityPlace.

The gastro pub was located across from City Cellar in the former Brewzzi space. Open just under a year, the eatery was part of the Philly-based Table 95 Hospitality Group and it was the first of the City Tap restaurants to open in Florida.

Bay Bay's Chicken & Waffles

Bay Bay’s Chicken & Waffles’ original location, on Okeechobee Blvd.,  has closed after barely five years in business. Owner Israel Johnson says the place has accomplished its goal: to serve as a template for his planned franchise operation.

Johnson says he hopes to open a Bay Bay’s restaurant in Miami in the next six months. He says he’s eyeing locations in Wynwood and North Miami Beach, near FIU, where he attended hospitality school.

The rustic barbecue restaurant, Smoke BBQ Delray Beach  closed in August 2017.  Smoke BBQ opened its doors in 2014 in Downtown Delray Beach on East Atlantic Avenue focusing on old fashioned, smokey BBQ. The restaurant was featured in The Palm Beach Post’s “BBQ: Ultimate Guide of Palm Beach County,” which published in July 2017.

Bowery Palm Beach, the upmarket restaurant and club that debuted at CityPlace seven months ago, has closed. It took over the former BB King’s/Lafayette’s space in December 2016. Before BB King’s opened in 2009, the building housed Legal Seafood. No word yet on what may be headed into that difficult space.

Le Rendez-vous

Le Rendez-vous, downtown West Palm’s sweet, boho spot of French café dishes, jazz nights and easy weekend brunch, closed its doors in June.  A lease dispute led to the closing, says Olivier Delrieu, who co-owns the restaurant with his brother, Edouard Delrieu.

Jardin, the unique restaurant in downtown West Palm Beach officially closed in June. The restaurant opened in April of 2016.

The crafted-grilled-cheese restaurant in Boynton’s Renaissance Commons, which opened in 2014, closed in June. The restaurant was owned by Craig Larson, who also owns Lucille’s Bad to the Bone BBQ.  Larson has reopened MELT’s spot as a second Lucille’s.

Little Munich

The sweet little German food spot in downtown Lake Worth called it quits in June 2017. The Lake Avenue establishment featured flavors of Deutschland and served a decent range of German draft and bottled beers.

Just five months after it opened in Boca Raton, Rappy’s, the modernized Jewish deli closed in May 2017. It reopened under new management as Park Place Deli.

Ocean Bleu

Ocean Bleu, which was voted for having the best brunch in Palm Beach County by our Post readers, closed its doors May 14, 2017. It was located at the Countyline Plaza in Tequesta.

Rustic Inn

The restaurant located on the Jupiter Inlet, overlooking the Jupiter Lighthouse, closed its doors May 2017. It was voted for having the best view  in all Palm Beach County in 2015 by The Palm Beach Post’s Food Editor.

Craft Bar Kitchen

Open for just over one year, the Craft Bar Kitchen was located in the renovated ground-floor space in the Reynolds Plaza building just west of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

The Counter Custom Burgers

The low-key restaurant that featured build-your-own burgers and decadent adult shakes closed in February 2017. The Gardens Mall eatery was tucked into a quiet corner of the mall, near Bloomingdale’s.

The Burger & Beer Joint

In January, 2017, The Burger & Beer Joint closed its stand-alone location in CityPlace in West Palm Beach. The restaurant was known for its mega-burgers, including a 10-pound behemoth known as the Motherburger for $150! The restaurant has since reopened inside Revolutions in CityPlace.

Poutine Dog Cafe

Lake Worth locals and anyone who loved poutine was sad to see Poutine Dog Cafe close its doors in January, 2017. The eatery lasted five years in downtown Lake Worth.

Subculture Coffee Roasters

The trendy Subculture Coffee was forced to closed its Delray Beach location after a two-year lease dispute . The coffee shop known for its free-spirited and artsy feel stood at 123 E Atlantic Ave., on the strip once dominated by indie shops and businesses.

13 American Table

The Boca Raton restaurant had the feel of a modern industrial mountain lodge and served up amazing seasonal ceviche. 13 American Table was located on Palmetto Park Road.

Everything you need to know about Indian food can be found in a single phrase in a cookbook by the otherwise reasonable Anupy Singla.   The book “Indian for Everyone” contains a recipe for Chana Aloo, a meal of curried chickpeas and potatoes. Calling the dish comforting and wholesome, she adds that it is — and this is the...
