But that wasn’t the case in the 1970s, when you weren’t sure what to expect — or what you’d hear — from a rowdy broadcasting crew that included Howard “Tell It Like It Is” Cosell, “Dandy” Don Meredith, Frank Gifford, and sometimes Fred “The Hammer” Williamson and Alex “Mongo” Karras.
Many Monday Night announcers have come and gone (Tequesta’s Joe Namath was a color commentator in 1985), but there was nothing quite like the dream team of Cosell, Meredith and Gifford, as these photos from some of their glory night broadcasts in Miami attest.
And, no, we don’t know what Cosell is doing in a Fins uniform. But he couldn’t be much worse than this year’s squad, right? (The tape don’t lie.)
