The Something Different “sandwich”

MENU

From deli-style sandwiches as big as your head to barbecue chicken and ribs, and even chicken parmigiana, there’s something for everyone on the five-page menu. You’ll also find diner fare, like burgers, fries, onion rings and milkshakes. And don’t you dare leave without ordering the famous cheesecake.

ATMOSPHERE

The contemporary New York-based eatery reminds me of a diner but with a certain elegance, especially in the lighting and fixtures. Pops of orange in the leather chairs and couches, coupled with life-size murals of Coney Island plastered along the walls, give it a fun, bright and inviting ambiance.

FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

The Something Different “sandwich” ($18.95) is truly of the unusual variety, with two massive (and crispy) potato pancakes holding layers of thinly sliced tender brisket in between them. Your choice of au jus or mushroom gravy will complement the brisket (I went for both), while the homemade applesauce adds a hint of sweetness to the savory potatoes. It was the most difficult decision of the night, but we settled on the red velvet cheesecake ($7.75), which layers incredibly moist red velvet cake with cheesecake and tops it off with cream cheese icing.

REASON TO GO

. I’d go for the cheesecake alone, but this is the type of place you can keep coming back to and try something new each time.

SERVICE

On a weeknight, we were not only seated right away, we received our food in maybe 10 minutes after ordering. Our waitress was sweet and prompt, and the manager was around just to assist wait staff.

NOISE LEVEL

Even though it wasn’t really crowded, the chatter was alive and well. Dining outside is also an option.

KID FRIENDLY

Between the diner-friendly comfort food and of course, desserts, the kids will love this place. They (and parents, too) will also appreciate the enormous Connect 4 game on the outside patio.
