ICYMI: These Palm Beach County restaurants closed in 2017

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to some really good restaurants this year. One that closed was voted the best place for brunch by our Palm Beach Post readers and another was voted for having one of the best views in Palm Beach County. From Jupiter to Boca Raton, we said farewell to these:

Ocean Bleu, which was voted for having the best brunch in Palm Beach County by our Post readers, closed its doors May 14, 2017. It was located at the Countyline Plaza in Tequesta.

The restaurant located on the Jupiter Inlet overlooking the Jupiter Lighthouse  closed its doors May 2017. It was voted for having the best view in all Palm Beach County in 2015 by The Palm Beach Post’s Food Editor.

Open for just over one year, the Craft Bar Kitchen was located in the renovated ground-floor space in the Reynolds Plaza building just west of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

The low-key restaurant that featured build-your-own burgers and decadent adult shakes closed in February 2017. The Gardens Mall eatery was tucked into a quiet corner of the mall, near Bloomingdale’s.

In January, 2017, The Burger & Beer Joint closed its doors at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. The restaurant was known for its mega-burgers, including a 10-pound behemoth known as the Motherburger for $150!

Lake Worth locals and anyone who loved poutine was sad to see Poutine Dog Cafe close its doors in January, 2017. The eatery lasted five years in downtown Lake Worth.

The trendy Subculture Coffee was forced to closed its Delray Beach location after a two-year lease dispute . The coffee shop known for its free-spirited and artsy feel stood at 123 E Atlantic Ave., on the strip once dominated by indie shops and businesses.

The Boca Raton restaurant had the feel of a modern industrial mountain lodge and served up amazing seasonal ceviche. 13 American Table was located on Palmetto Park Road.

Bitters: What exactly they are, and how to use them in cocktails and more

Think of bitters like the spice rack of the cocktail world. That's the first thing Hunter Bryant, bar manager at Haven in Tampa, tells me when I sidle up to the restaurant's bar on a recent weekday for a Bitters 101 lesson. It instantly helps me understand the allure of the alcoholic extracts.  Like most people, I was familiar with bitters, those...

Deli dissolve: Rappy’s closes, reopens as Park Place Deli

Just five months after it opened in Boca Raton, Rappy’s, the modernized Jewish deli of restaurateur Burt Rapoport’s dreams, will close Wednesday. It will reopen under new management Thursday as Park Place Deli, a more affordable spot focused on deli classics, Rapoport’s Restaurant Group announced Tuesday.  Rapoport has brought...

A vital drug runs low, though its base ingredient is in many kitchens

Hospitals around the country are scrambling to stockpile vials of a critical drug — even postponing operations or putting off chemotherapy treatments — because the country’s only two suppliers have run out. The medicine? Sodium bicarbonate solution. Yes, baking soda. Sodium bicarbonate is the simplest of drugs — its base ingredient...
