Enjoy down-home charm, menu at Cody’s Roadhouse

MENU

Appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, barbecue, chicken, wings, ribs, pork, steak, seafood, quesadillas, vegetables, desserts.

ATMOSPHERE

Vintage comfort, with down-home charm and antique memorabilia that harken to a simpler time. License plates have been fashioned into cute overhead lamps, and cozy wooden walls and tables invite you to sit a spell and try a big ole juicy steak or barbecue chicken. Butcher-block paper covers the checkered tablecloths and provides a canvas for doodling while you wait for your food.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

We were greeted at the table by roasted peanuts in a metal pail, and servers invite you to toss the empty shells on the floor if you are so inclined. The waitress also delivered a basket of fresh-baked sweet yeast rolls with cinnamon butter to quench our appetite as we studied the exhaustive menu. I went whole-hog and ordered a full rack of baby-back ribs ($20.98), two-plus pounds of decadent, fall-off-the-bone ribs, seasoned and served with Cody’s own sweet barbecue sauce. The meat was so tender and tangy I thought I’d died and gone to barbecue heaven. It was served with one side and Cody’s famous bottomless salad bowl, so of course I had plenty of tasty leftovers for the following day.

REASON TO GO

Cody’s offers classic American favorites in a fun setting, and prices are low enough to treat the whole family. There are weekly specials, and kids eat free with adult purchase Monday and Tuesday.

SERVICE

Very good. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The owner even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our meals and gave us free appetizer coupons for our next trip when he learned it was our first visit.

NOISE LEVEL

The restaurant was very busy and noisy with chatter, but we didn’t mind.

KID FRIENDLY

Children can choose from cheeseburgers, mac and cheese, pulled pork sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, corn dog, chicken tenders, shrimp on a stick and pepperoni pizza.

My grandmother was Italian. Why aren’t my genes Italian?

Maybe you got one of those find-your-ancestry kits over the holidays. You’ve sent off your awkwardly collected saliva sample, and you’re awaiting your results.
