Liz recommends… Burt & Max’s, Bistro Ten Zero One, La Fontana Pizzeria

BURT & MAX’S

This buzzy eatery, located in western Delray Beach, is the collaborative work of two of South Florida’s top restaurateurs, Burt Rapoport and Dennis Max — and it combines all that is right about their individual restaurant ventures. Expect large portions, comfort entrees and upscale suburban vibe.

Burt & Max’s: 9089 W Atlantic Ave., Suite 100 (in the Delray Marketplace), Delray Beach; 561-638-6380

BISTRO TEN ZERO ONE

This spot, located inside the West Palm Beach Marriott, has become a local hub of sorts for well-paired wine dinners, craft brew and inspired American bistro dishes. Expertly prepared, the food is made all the better by local and regional ingredients.

Bistro Ten Zero One: 1001 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach; 561-833-1234

LA FONTANA PIZZERIA

There’s more than good Italian grub at this family-owned, North Palm pizzeria: there’s a delicious Balkan menu, reflecting the family’s Bosnian roots. Try the homemade Bosnian bread with the homemade clotted cream, the cured meats, savory pastry turnover and delicious Balkan pizza.

La Fontana: 1201 U.S. Highway 1, Suite 38 (in the Crystal Tree Plaza just behind the fountain), North Palm Beach; 561-408-3295

Fire up the oven for full flavor, says America’s Test Kitchen

We know all about special occasion roasts – the turkey at Thanksgiving, the glazed ham at Christmas, the lamb at Easter and roast chicken at Rosh Hashana. But if you’re like me, you barely turn on the oven between holidays.  Random days are for easy sautés or a quick toss of pasta, or maybe mindless, hands-off, slow-cooker stews...
