Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $8.10 an hour in 2017, up from $8.05 in 2015 and 2016, Florida’s labor department said Friday.
In a constitutional amendment, Florida voters approved a state minimum wage that’s a bit more generous than the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour. Florida’s higher wage took effect in 2005.
The union SEIU Florida panned the raise as “trivial” and renewed its call for a $15-an-hour minimum wage.
In all, 29 states and the District of Columbia require employers to pay hourly rates that are higher than the federal minimum wage. California and Massachusetts impose $10-an-hour minimum wages, while Washington, D.C., has an $11.50 minimum wage.

Tiger Woods is rebranding his Jupiter restaurant; launching new parent brand
Tiger Woods is rebranding his Jupiter restaurant as part of a push to create a centralized brand around the golfer’s business ventures.
Under the shift, The Woods Jupiter in Habourside Place will get a new logo, but will keep its name.
A centralized, parent brand called TGR was launched to “unify” Woods’ current and future business ventures.
“Since spring 2015, Tiger has been developing TGR, a brand that will unite and strengthen his current businesses and future endeavors,” according to a press release announcing the effort. “Led by Tiger’s vision and inspired by his commitment to excellence on and off the golf course, TGR reflects the mindset, method, and mastery that have remained constant throughout his lifelong pursuit of excellence.”
The Woods, which has 5,900-square feet and a New American cuisine menu, opened in Aug. 2015. It is named after Woods’ father, Earl Woods.
The new logo was designed to “reflects the defining characteristics of its founder: precision, sophistication, and excellence,” according to the announcement. Although other businesses within TGR will be using a new name, The Woods Jupiter will remain the same in honor of Woods’ father.
“I’m thrilled with the success we’ve enjoyed in our first year,” Tiger Woods said in a prepared statement announcing the new parent brand. “TGR is a great reflection of what we do at The Woods – provide a premium experience that’s also fun and relaxed. I’m proud of the staff and what they’ve done in this first year, and I’m happy the local community has enjoyed it so much.”
